I always write a covering letter to the moderator expressing my limits with word limits. Trying to cover my students back really!!! I too, of course, try to encourage histories to stick to the word limits but I find that often the pupils are obsessed with the word count rather than what is actually in the coursework so I no longer word a big issue about it.
